The District Court again acquits police officers accused of abusing Roma boys at a police station in Košice

At today's hearing, the Košice II District Court again - for the third time - acquitted the police officers accused of abusing Roma boys at a police station in Košice in March 2009. According to the court, neither the additional evidence proved that the incident took place as alleged by the indictment of the prosecution.

EUROPEAN COMMISSION PUBLISHED A REPORT ON IMPLEMENTATION OF ANTI-DISCRIMINATION LEGISLATION IN SLOVAKIA

The European Commission published a report that provides a detailed insight into the implementation of anti-discrimination legislation, including the Anti-Discrimination Act in Slovakia in 2018. Our cooperating lawyer, Vanda Durbakova, also participated in the preparation of this report in cooperation with the European Network of Legal Experts on Gender Equality and Non-Discrimination.

UN Committee calls upon the Slovak government for more consistent protection of economic and social rights of people in Slovakia

The UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights called upon the Slovak government to adopt multiple specific measures to improve the production of human rights in Slovakia. It published the proposed measures after its October session and discussion with Slovak government delegation in Geneva. Many of them concern protection of Roma minority rights specifically.

The Constitutional Court has compensated four Roma who have been unsuccessfully seeking redress for discrimination for almost thirteen years. They filed a lawsuit claiming they faced discrimination on the ground of their ethnic origin in November 2005, when they were refused to be served by the staff of local bar in a village near Vranov nad Topľou in eastern Slovakia.
