Thanks to the Slovak-Czech Women's Fund and its one-time financial support, we organized another meeting for Roma women activists who have a strong need to continue with their activities on promoting their rights and rights of other Roma women.
Ministry of Justice responded to our public call for adopting measures that would lead to effective investigation of illegal sterilization of Roma women in Slovakia and former Czechoslovakia and to compensate all women harmed.
On 6 August 2018, we received a notification from Ombudswoman to our complaint, in which we objected an inspection by the Prešov County Council in the case of discrimination and segregation of Roma women in the Prešov hospital.
With the support of other organizations and people we urge the Slovak Government to finally establish an independent body with the power to investigate the scope of illegal sterilization practices and to compensate all women harmed.
We released a press statement to the decision of Regional court in Kosice in a case of violence against Roma boys from Lunik IX. For a long time we have been providing free legal representation to the affected Roma boys.
The town Spišská Nová Ves discriminated against the Roma woman who applied for a job as a field social worker and must compensate her. This was ruled by the Regional Court in Košice which fully confirmed a decision of the District Court in Spišská Nová Ves from March 2017. It is one of the first final decisions of the Slovak courts in the case of racial discrimination in access to employment in favor of a discriminated person.
