European Court in Strasbourg: Slovakia insufficiently investigated police violence against three Roma boys

The European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg (ECtHR) ruled on a case of police violence against three Roma boys that occurred in a police car during their transfer to a police station in Košice, Eastern Slovakia, in 2009. According to the ECtHR, the responsible state authorities did not sufficiently investigate the violence against them, thus violating their international human rights obligations.

The police officers accused of abusing Roma boys at a police station in Košice are innocent - it was confirmed today by the appeal court, which dismissed the appeal of the Prosecutor against the acquittal judgment

The Regional Court in Kosice at today's public hearing dismissed the Prosecutor´s appeal against the acquittal judgment of the District Court Košice II of 4 December 2019 in a widely medialised case of ill-treatment against six Roma boys at a police station in Košice. Judgment by which the accused policemen were acquitted is final.

Two injured Roma in police raid in Moldava nad Bodvou get justice at the European Court in Strasbourg

The European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg (ECtHR) ruled today that Slovakia violated the rights of two injured Roma in relation to police violence during a police raid in the Roma community in Moldava nad Bodvou in 2013 in eastern Slovakia. According to the ECtHR, the responsible public authorities did not adequately investigate violence against them, thereby violating their international legal obligations in the field of human rights. The ECtHR awarded financial compensation of EUR 20 000 in full to each of the applicants.

The European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg (ECtHR) ruled today in the case of police violence against a Roma boy, which was due in 2015 in one of the Roma marginalised communities in Eastern Slovakia municipalities in the district of Spisska Nova Ves. According to the ECtHR, the responsible state authorities have not sufficiently investigated the case, in breach of their international human rights obligations. The ECHR awarded the victim a compensation of EUR 5000.
