Together with partner organisations we sent our statement to the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe on shortcomings in investigating racial motive of police violence cases in Slovakia

Together with the partner NGOs European Roma Rights Centre and Forum for Human Rights, we sent our joint statement to the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, in which we point out the insufficient implementation of the European Court of Human Rights judgment in a case - Lakatošová and Lakatoš v. Slovakia. This case is related to the tragic event in Hurbanovo in 2012, when a member of the municipality police shot three people of Roma origin and seriously injured others. The European Court later ruled that Slovak authorities had not sufficiently investigated the racial motive of this act.

In our statement, we emphasize that the Slovak government has failed to address the serious persistent shortcomings in investigating the racial motive of police violence cases against Roma in Slovakia, and we request the Committee of Ministers to call on the government to take the necessary measures.
