The UN Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance prepares a report concerning issue of reparations in cases of human rights violations and its role in securing racial justice and equality in the world. We sent her information about the situation in this area in Slovakia.
In our report we inform about reluctance of the Slovak government to take responsibility for providing redress in cases of human rights violations against Roma minority, that might have affected a lot of persons, in particular forced sterilization of Roma women. As well, we inform about the reluctance of the Government to redress discriminated persons who achieved justice with their individual complaints at the UN Committees that recommended their compensation.
In our report we also describe barriers for Roma to get justice for discrimination in Slovak courts.
